Summary: Katniss and Peeta have just won the Hunger Games! Luckily, none of them swallowed any of the berries yet, because if they were too, they would have been dead by now. The hovercraft comes to get them and they are taken out of the horrid habitat that has been their home for the past couple of weeks, and are on their way to the luxurious Capital, where the celebration will be held. However, Katniss and Peeta are immediately knocked out, and separated so that they can undergo procedures to cure all of their health problems that were caused by the Hunger Games. When Katniss awakes, she is in a hospital bed located in a room with no visible windows or doors. She tries to get up to get out of the room and look for Peeta, but when she tries to get up; she is injected with some medicine that knocks her out once again. However, next time she awakes, an “Avox girl” walkes in with a meal for Katniss, and then just simply leaves. This routine of getting knocked out, waking up, eating, and then getting knocked out once again goes on for the next few days until Katniss finally pulls together the strength to get out of her room and go look for Peeta. Katniss is unsuccessful, and is taken by Effie, Haymitch, and Cinna to go prepare herself for the ceremony. When Cinna shows Katniss herself in her dress, Katniss just sees how much the Hunger Games have taken a toll on her. She is as thin as a twig, and has lost all of the aspects that made her believe she was beautiful before. After, Katniss is taken to the ceremony, and is given good luck hugs and kisses from her team before, “The most dangerous part of the Hunger Games begins.”

Summary: Katniss realizes that they are being chased by “Muttations”, large creatures who look like wolves, but act like humans. Katniss follows Cato to the Cornucopia, where they climb about twenty feet to get away from the Muttations. However, Katniss realizes that Peeta has fallen behind, and the Muttations are gaining on him. Katniss ends up having to fire one of her arrows to allow Peeta to get onto the Cornucopia safely, without being killed by the Muttations. They are all on the Cornucopia and Katniss is debating on whether or not to kill Cato right here, right now, but misses her chance, for the Muttations are starting to use their human powers, and jump onto the Cornucopia. When one Muttations gets about half way up the Cornucopia, Katniss finds that they have collars on them with numbers, and that they have different collared eyes and facial expressions when it hits her; Muttations are made from the competitors who have all passed, and are now being controlled by the Capital. Katniss kills one more that is climbing up the wall, but is then stopped by Peeta’s scream, which is being caused by Cato strangling Peeta. Katniss can’t kill Cato, for Peeta will be brought down to the ground with him, and be killed by the Muttations. However, Peeta points for Katniss to shoot Cato’s hand, for the rest is covered by armor, and because it would allow Peeta to escape Cato’s grip. Katniss shot is dead on and hits Cato’s right in the hand, allowing Peeta to escape before Cato falls to the ground and is taken away by the Muttations. Katniss grabs on to Peeta to guarantee that he will not fall, and they wait to hear the cannon go off and signal their victory, but nothing happens. Katniss and Peeta reason that they have to be away from the body, so that the hovercraft can retrieve the body, so Katniss and Peeta walk back to the lake to get there supplies. Sure enough the cannon goes off, and they wait for another hovercraft the come and retrieve them for they are now the victors. However, once again, nothing happens. Finally, Claudius Templesmith’s voice rages from the loud speakers, but not to congratulate Katniss and Peeta for winning The Hunger Games, but rather to announce that the rule made earlier in the games had been overruled, and there will only be one victor to The Hunger Games. In disbelief, Katniss and Peeta start to get into a fight about who should be the victor. Katniss comes up with a brilliant idea to both eat the poisonous berries Peeta had found earlier at the same time, leaving them to die at the same time and mock the Capitol about how there will be no winner to The Hunger Games. They count to three and put the berries in their mouth, but just as they do this, Claudius’s voice come back on the loud speaker and congratulates Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark for being the victors of the 74^th Hunger Games!!

Summary: Katniss goes into further explanation about how Foxface was killed by the berries Peeta collected. Afterwards, Katniss and Peeta have a minute of silence to acknowledge just how lucky they are that it wasn’t them who died from eating the deadly berries. Anyway, Katniss and Peeta were now walking around with their food they caught from hunting, all whilst trying to find a home for the night. Peeta soon gets bored of looking, and politely askes if they can go back, and stay in the cave for one more night. Katniss is nice, and agrees to stay in the cave, so they walk all the way back to their “home”. Once they get back, Katniss throws together a quick meal, after which, Peeta is out like a light. Katniss stays awake all night, and decides to let Peeta sleep in until the morning has begun. That very next day, Katniss and Peeta decide to leave there cave for good, and look for a new water supply since overnight the river was drained, in hopes to get Katniss and Peeta to collide with the last remaining competitor Cato. Kantiss and Peeta are walking towards the water supply, being to lake, where they will be out in the open with no real shelter against the all mighty Cato. Katniss and Peeta arrive at the lake first and have a few moments to just relax. However, this relaxing doesn’t last long for out of nowhere Katniss sees Cato running strait for them in the distance. In a spit second Katniss and Peeta are ready to battle. But, Katniss realizes that Cato is sweating, meaning that he has been running for quite a while, and all of a sudden Katniss spots a half dozen creatures running after Cato. In an instant Katniss forgets about Cato, and is running to save her own life.

Summary: Katniss and Peeta decide to portion up the food given to them by Haymitch, and only have a tiny amount, even though they could devour the whole meal in a matter of minutes. After their meal, they watch the anthem and are very surprised to see that Thresh has been killed. It takes Kantiss a while to overcome her emotions, for Thresh is the competitor who spared her life during the feast. Anyway, after a nights rest, the rain has vanished, so Katniss decides this would be the perfect time to go hunting. However, it is also a very dangerous time to go hunting, for Cato, Thresh’s partner, is now by himself, and is probably on the hunt for the rest of the competitors. This doesn’t stop Katniss and Peeta for they are already on their way to the old spot where Katniss used to hunt with Rue. They split up when they reach the area, leaving Katniss can go get some meat, and Peeta to gather some berries. After Katniss catches a couple of animals, she returns to where they had split up, and finds Peeta missing, and some of their food gone. Peeta ends up just being behind a tree, but he says that he didn’t eat any of the food. Next thing they know, the cannon goes off and they find one of the remaining four competitors, Foxface, dead on the ground only a hundred yards away. In fear of Cato being the cause of her death, Katniss and Peeta scurry up into a tree. However, Katniss soon realizes that Foxface had taken the food, meaning that the berries Peeta had been collecting had been toxic.

Summary: Katniss finally wakes up to Peeta rubbing her head on a cold and rainy day. The day goes by slowly for the rain prevents them from doing anything outside of their cave. They end up gobbling down the rest of their food, in hopes that the weather will break tomorrow, and they will be able to go hunting. However, the exact opposite happens, and the weather actually gets sufficiently worse. By the end of the day Katniss and Peeta are starving. They talk for a while about how Katniss survived from the feast, and then they get onto the topic of how long Peeta has liked Katniss. Interestingly enough, Peeta has truly liked/ loved Katniss ever since Kindergarten. In regards to the conversation, they end up both leaning in for a kiss, which is interrupted by Haymitch sending them a feast big enough for five that can supply them for the next couple of days.

Summary: Katniss finishes making a wall in front of the cave to help camouflage Peeta from the rest of the competitors while she goes to the feast to get supplies. Katniss arrives right before dawn and is surprised that none of the competitor’s bags, containing vital supplies, have been taken yet. Katniss decides to wait to run and take her bag from the open for a little while until the sun starts to rise. This was a bad idea. When Katniss decides to go run into the open to get her bag, he is chased by two knives - one that missed her, and the other that hits her strait the forehead. She is bleeding like crazy and is then tackled to the ground by another competitor and was sure that she will die. However, Katniss is not killed, and is spared for earlier in the game she helped this competitor stay alive. With her heart racing, she runs back to the cave with her bag and gives Peeta the medicine that will cure his fever that she found in her pack. Sure enough Peeta is all better, but now Katniss isn’t feeling well so Peeta is now taking care of her.

Summary: Katniss is making Peeta some broth to help keep him warm from his fever. Katniss didn’t realize just how much work she was going to have to do for Peeta when she first though about joining together. For example, Katniss didn’t get one bit of sleep all night because she had to stay up and watch/ protect Peeta and herself from the remaining competitors. Luckily, Peeta was feeling a little bit better the next day, and was able to stand on duty while Katniss got some well needed rest. When Katniss wakes up she checks on Peeta again and realizes that he is getting blood poisoning, a deadly disease that only one type of medication can cure, and Katniss doesn’t have it. In doubt, Katniss tries to make Peeta as happy as he can be, for he may not be alive much longer. Katniss wants to go off and retrieve some medicine and other supplies back by where they started the Hunger Games to help cure Peeta, but Peeta won’t let her leave his side. Katniss decides to give Peeta some medicine that will knock him out for about a day so that she can go and retrieve the supplies for Peeta since deep down she knows that it is the best thing to do in order to keep Peeta alive. Katniss simply puts the medicine in Peeta’s next meal, and in no time he is out like a light bulb.

Summary: Katniss quickly covers her mouth after yelling out Peeta’s name, but it is too late, for the word has already escaped her lips. There is no answer back, so Katniss goes to look for Peeta. She is looking and looking until she finally thinks that he has to be close to some water source so she goes and checks by the river. It turns out that Peeta was indeed there, and when Katniss asked about them joining forces he agreed with pleaser. However, there is one problem, Peeta is in bad shape. He has cuts, bruises, bits, and burn marks all over his body, and he can’t even stand without help. Katniss wants to get out of where they are, so she brings Peeta down to the river to clean up his wounds with the hope that it will cure him enough to walk. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help Peeta, so Katniss and Peeta are forced to spend the night where they are. Before they go to bed, Katniss and Peeta are talking, and they end up kissing twice!! Just as they are falling to sleep Peeta also gets a package from the sponsors, what a lucky interesting night for Peeta!

Summary: Katniss comes upon Rue and the boy from District 1, and before she can do anything the boy from District 1 dies. Rue isn’t doing so well either, so Katniss stays by her side, and sings a lullaby until Rue also passes. Katniss is a wreck; she is so sad, she doesn’t know what to do without Rue being at her side. She decides to go up into a tree, higher than she has ever gone before, to zone out of the Hunger Games, and recover from the loss of Rue. She tries to sleep, but as she is dozing off, she starts to hear trumpets, and sure enough it is Claudius Templesmith who announces a new rule was being added to the Hunger Games, which very rarely happens. The rule was that if you and your partner from your district are the only two competitors left, you both automatically win the Hunger Games. Before Katniss can stop herself, she yells out Peeta’s name because she wants to team up with him since she doesn’t have Rue, and because she wants to take advantage of the newly added rule.

Summary: Katniss is flung in the air by the minds, and lands stiffly of the ground below. She is very dizzy, and is able to crawl into some shrubs just in the nick of time before Cato and the Careers come running to what used to be there camp looking for anything to rummage. Unfortunately, there is nothing left for the Careers. In rage, Cato kills the lookout, which was the boy from district 3, and almost kills more if the other Careers didn’t hold him back. Anyway, after the Careers leave, Katniss goes to look for Rue, who at this point should be back where they split up. However, Rue isn’t there yet so Katnis waits, and waits until she can’t wait any longer, and goes to look for Rue. Katniss’s hearing is returning because while walking through the woods she hears birds. This wasn’t just any old bird that Katniss was hearing; this was Rues impression of the “Mockingjay”. Katniss is looking around in the trees for Rue, when she hears a scream. The scream is of a girl, which could only be Rue, so Katniss runs over to see what is happening. Katniss comes upon Rue tangled in a big net, and before Katniss can do anything, a spear enters Rues body!

Summary: Katniss and Rue go to bed, when all of a sudden they are woken by the cannon. They think of who could have died at this time, but decide to just wait for the evening to find out. It is close enough to morning that Katniss and Rue decide to start their day early, in hopes to come up with a plan to steal some of the Careers food. Katniss decides that they should split up, and Rue should go make a distraction to get the Careers out of their camp so that Katniss could then sneak down and take their food. Rue decides to make a fire, which successfully gets the Careers away from their camp, and Katniss is left alone in a tree above their camp thinking of the best and sneakiest way to retrieve the food. However, Katniss starts playing mind games with herself about if there are any traps down below to keep other competitors away. Katniss is very cautious, for she has decided to herself that there are mines down below, but time is running out so she has to think quickly about how to get the food before the Careers return. She decides to shoot arrows at the sack of apples, hoping that the sack will rip, and apples will fall to the ground and test whether there are mines or not. Katniss fires three arrows before the apples start to roll out, and as soon as the first apple hits the ground, Katniss is flung out of her tree and into the air!

Summary: Katniss wakes up, and luckily finds herself alive, and unharmed. However, she is still tired even though it has been sleeping for almost two whole days! The first thing she does it goes to get water. On her way, she finds, and shoots a rabbit with the bow and arrow she got from the Career. She goes to cook it, and feels the sense that she is being watched so she pulls her bow to her. It turns out that Rue was behind a tree so she comes out and they talk. They end up teaming up and have a rabbit feast. They also show there weapons to each other in case anybody comes. Lastly, Katniss and Rue go in a tree to get some sleep, and while in the tree they talk about their game plan which involves Peeta!

Summary: Katniss finds that Rue was pointing to a bees hive, possibly a Tracker bee hive, who if you mess they will literally track you down and to give you a very deadly sting. It is getting close to morning so it is now or never for Katniss to knock the bees nest on the ground next to Peeta and the Careers. Katniss starts to cut at the branch that the hive is on and almost has it cut through when the some bees come out, and sting Katniss three times before she successfully cuts the branch off. However, her plan works for the bees think that Peeta and his gang were the ones who knocked their nest down, and the bees wake them up with their deadly stings. Most run off, but two girls are left behind with the bees and they soon die. One in particular was the girl with the nice bow and arrows, so before the hover craft picks up Glimmer, Katniss goes over to her and snatches the bow and arrow. Peeta comes back and warns Katniss that Cato, one of the Careers, was coming to kill them, so they both run, but not for long. Katniss is very drowsy from the stings and reaches the point where she starts hallucinating. Luckly, Cato goes after Peeta because Katniss soon passes out and crashes to the ground with a horrid nightmare about bugs that are taking over her body. The last thing she thinks of before collapsing is, “Peeta Mellark just saved my life.”

Summary: Katniss quickly scurries out of her tree and runs for her life away from the fire. While Katniss is running, she thinks about if the fire gaining on her was a forest fire, or if it was set of on purpose to make the Games more interesting? Anyway, the smoke catches up with Katniss and she starts coughing, and eventually vomiting. The wall of fire soon starts launching fire balls which almost hit Katniss. However, soon it is over, but Katniss is in a lot of pain from the many burn marks she has all over her body. She soon finds a pool of water and bathes in it for quite a while to ease the pain. All of a sudden, Katniss hears footsteps so she runs to the closest tree and climbs up. It turns out that it was Peeta and the Careers coming to basically kill Katniss. They were unable to though, for they couldn’t climb up the tree so Katniss was spared (for now at least). Night comes and Katniss sets up camp in the tree for the night when she sees eyes. It turns out that these were the eyes of another competitor, Rue, who was there the whole time watching Katniss escape from Peeta and the Careers!

Peeta goes to see if the girl he was talking about before is dead. While he is gone the other competitors talk about how long they should keep Peeta in their Wolf Pack. Anyway, the competitors move on and by morning Katniss is back on the ground, walking in the opposite direction than the Careers are to find water. Katniss walks and walks to the Point where she is so dehydrated that she is shacking and stumbling. Katniss says, “Water” in a loud voice, hoping that Haymitch would hear her and water would drop from the sky. Unfortunately this doesn’t happen for Katniss. Katniss tries to stay positive and reasons that Haymitch didn’t give her water because she was getting very close to a source of water. Katniss pulls her self together and walks stiffly to where she truly can’t walk anymore. She sits down and realizes that she is in mud, which means there is water very close. It turns out that there was a pond, so Katniss runs over and takes a gigantic mouthful of water. Katniss almost instantly feels better, so she makes up camp for the night, making sure that she keeps on drinking water.

Summary:  The Hunger Games begin and Katniss races for a supply bag, when she almost encounters her death from a knife thrown by one of the other competitors. Luckily the knife hit a different competitor and Katniss was saved.  Katniss decides to run as far away as she could from everybody else, so she runs all day to a place she believes is remote from everyone else. Katniss runs until it is almost night time, when she sets up her bed in a tree. Katniss tries to get a good night’s sleep for she hasn’t gotten one in two days, and she dozes off.  However, a few hours later, Katniss is awoken by a fire and was so scared that she almost fell out of the tree. This was not a forest fire, but rather one of the other competitor’s camps that was set up only about 400 yards away. Katniss stays as quiet as possible when she realizes it is more than one competitor that was talking, rather it was a group of 4 competitors talking. They had made an alliance and were talking about Katniss! They were talking about how they were almost certain that she was dead. One competitor in particular was saying how he saw her get hit with a knife, which wasn’t true, and that Katniss realized that the voice belonged to Peeta!

Summary: It takes Katniss a minute, but she soon realizes that Peeta is talking about her! Katniss is amazed that Peeta would of admitted this now, right before they are going to be trying to kill each other. Anyway Katniss and all of the competitors go back to their rooms and try to get some sleep before the games begin the very next day. However, Katniss cannot get to sleep so she decides to go up to the roof, sit, and look down at the city. Katniss finds Peeta on the roof who cannot get to sleep either so the talk. The next day Katniss takes a hovercraft to the arena where the hunger games are being held. She is taken to an underground chamber where she spends her last minutes with Cinna, her stylist, before she is brought up through the ground and into the arena. Lastly, the announcer, Claudius Templesmith, says, “Ladies and gentlemen, let the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games begin!”

Summary: Katniss goes up to her room, still shocked from the fact that Peeta wanted to work individually. However, Katniss soon gets over it and goes to bed for tomorrow is the training day for the interview. Katniss first meets with Haymitch, where they go over proper dinner table manners, and how to walk with high heels. Next, Katniss goes with one of her stylists, Cinna, where she gets her jeweled dress to where for the interview. The next day is Katniss’s last day before the Hunger Games, and feels that she has finally gotten over Peeta. Later, she arrives at the City Circle, the location of the interviews; feeling extremely nervous for all of Panem (which used to be the US) will be watching the interviews on television. To make things worse for Katniss, she will be going second to last for the interviews, which means she has to sit through all the rest of the interviews. Katniss’s interview ends up going well; she answered all of the questions truly and overall didn’t seem very nervous. However, things all change for Katniss when Peeta tells all of Panem during his interview that he has a crush on a girl, and that if he wins he will not get the girl, because the girl he has a crush on is Katniss!

Summary: Katniss goes back to her room before she lets out her tears of why she just shot that arrow at the judges table. She is in this phase in her head that she just ended her whole scheme to approach the games with a chance of winning. However, when she and Peeta go down to dinner to hear the scores of their individual performances Katniss is blown away with a judge’s score of eleven out of twelve! Katniss now feels back on track and goes to bed feeling great. This greatness feeling that Katniss has soon perishes with the fact that Peeta now wants to train as individuals.

Summary: Katniss goes down to breakfast before heading over to the Training Center with Peeta. While there, Katniss and Peeta are interviewed by the trainers. The first question that the trainers asked was, “Do you want to train individually, or together?” Katniss and Peeta immediately said, “Together”, but when it came to giving information about each other, they both got very defensive and realized they should have given the question more thought. Anyway, after the interview, Katniss and Peeta had their first training session. The training sessions are many stations with different weapons and techniques that can be used during the Hunger Games. After a few days of training, the contestants have an individual training session. However, Katniss’s session doesn’t go as planned because when she shows the trainers her skill level half of them were not even paying attention. To get their attention Katniss decides to shoot an arrow at the judges table, which gave Katniss everybody’s attention, and then she just simply turned around and started to walk out of the room.

Summary: Katniss goes with Peeta to have dinner with the stylists. Katniss and Peeta feast out on a wonderful dinner. After, they decide to go up to the roof of their building to talk. Katniss tells Peeta about a girl that she recognized who was bringing out dinner. It turns out that Katniss and Gale were walking in the forest, and they saw this girl running towards District 12. They wondered what she was doing, when all of a sudden a hover craft appears out of nowhere and grabsthe girl. The girl screamed for Katniss’s and Gales help, but Katniss and Gale just stood there and watched the girl get dragged away. Anyway, Peeta and Katniss go back to their rooms and get a good night sleep. However, Katniss goes to bed with the thought on her mind on whether or not the girl is still waiting for revenge.

Summary: Katniss and the contestants’ meat up with their stylists in the Remake Center to go over their outfit for the opening ceremony. District 12, being Katniss and Peeta, will be wearing an outfit that ties in a big thing in District 12, coal. Katniss and Peeta will be in a suite that will literally be on fire, which the stylists say will capture the crowd. Anyway, Katniss and Peeta are taken by a chariot to the opening ceremonies, where the stylists light their outfits on fire. Katniss and Peeta walk into the city to where the crowd awaits their entrance. The crowd loves their suites, so they start chanting, “District 12” while throwing roses to them. Katniss is amazed. Later, Katniss and the contestants are given a speech by the president. After the speech Katniss and Peeta are talking, and Peeta remarks that Katniss looks beautiful in her outfit. Suddenly, Katniss is forced back into reality, with the thoughts that Peeta and the crowd might have been playing her all along, and that they could have not liked her at all.

Summary: Katniss and the other contestants get on a train and travel to the Capital. On the way, Katniss is thinking of the past and her family. After a nights rest on the train the contestants have a nice breakfast. However, during their breakfast, Haymitch makes a mean remark to Katniss and Peeta, and they get in a brawl. Peeta goes to hit Haymitch, but he gets puched in the jaw first and falls to the ground. Katniss stops the fight by taking a knife and pounding it into the table only a few inches away from where Haymitch’s hand lay. Anyway, the contestants reach the Capital, and Katniss realizes that Peeta is playing the contestants in trying to act nice, to get people on his side. Katniss now realizes the Hunger Games is not only a game where you try to kill people, but it is very much a mind game.

Summary: Katniss and the rest of the competitors are taken into The Justice Building to separate rooms to be visited by their family/friends. Katniss is first visited by her mom and Prim for a last good bye. Then, the Baker, Peeta’s father (who is another competitor in the Games) comes in and gives Katniss cookies. This is followed by Katniss’s friend, Madge, who gives her a good luck pin, and lastly Gale who gives Katniss a good luck hug. Katniss is then taken on a high speed train to the Capital, where the Hunger games are held. Katniss is given the feast of her life before she, and the other competitors watch a video showing all of them being chosen to enter into the Hunger games.

Summary: Katniss is shocked that her sister Prim was chosen. She decides that Prim is too young to be in the Hunger Games, so Katniss does the unthinkable for a District 12 member, and volunteers to take Prim’s place in the games! However, after Katniss’s risky move, she started to get lots of respect from the people around her. Katniss tries to enjoy what could possibly be the last days of her life before the games start. Katniss wants to have a good last meal before the games, so she goes to the rich part of district 12 to try and get some food. She ends up getting two loafs of bread from what will soon be another compeer in the games, Peeta Melark. Soon enough the Hunger Games arrive, and Katniss is just about to begin the first challenge.

Summary: Katniss Everdeen lives in district 12, in a place once called North America. She and her friend Gale slip under the barbed fence and go hunting for animals to trade in for food. Gale is the only person that Katniss can really be herself to in this place known as her “home”. Kattniss and Gale end up catching a good amount of fish before retuning back to district 12 to get ready for the reaping. The reaping is an event that happens yearly where all of the districts randomly chose one person to compete in a competition where each kid is fighting to the death food. You do not want to hear your name in reaping. Katness, being one of the older kids, has a better chance of being picked, where her sister, Prim, being a younger kid has a very small chance of being picked. Anyway, the time comes for reaping and Katniss and the rest of the population find out that Katniss’s sister, Prim, is going to go to the hunger games!
